Our Vision : the establishment of an exploitation free society

Gram Mitra Samaj Sevi Sansthan is a non-profit organization that has been working towards tribal rights and equity for the last two decades in the state of Chhattisgarh, India. The organization's name, Gram Mitra, means 'Friend of Village', and it aptly describes the organization's mission of building a strong community of people who have otherwise been excluded and marginalized in society.

The organization works towards creating awareness and increased realization of the rights of tribal communities, building their capacity to demand rights, and empowering them to take control of resources and make decisions affecting their lives. Gram Mitra believes in and follows the motto of 'Sangathan mein Shakti' or 'Strength in cooperation', emphasizing the importance of collective action and community building.

The organization's vision is to establish an exploitation-free society, where tribal communities can live with dignity and respect, and their rights are protected. Gram Mitra's mission is to provide Adivasi and Dalit people with opportunities for economic independence and self-reliance, to develop self-confidence among the people, and to bring within their reach basic amenities necessary for their wellbeing.

Gram Mitra's work is centered around the following key areas:

  1. Livelihoods: Gram Mitra focuses on promoting sustainable livelihoods for tribal communities through agriculture, animal husbandry, and other income-generating activities. The organization provides training and support to farmers, promotes organic farming, and works towards improving market linkages for tribal produce.

  2. Education: Gram Mitra works towards providing quality education to children from tribal communities. The organization runs residential schools for tribal children, provides scholarships and educational materials, and conducts training programs for teachers.

  3. Health: Gram Mitra works towards improving the health status of tribal communities by promoting hygiene and sanitation practices, providing healthcare services, and conducting awareness campaigns on health issues.

  4. Women's empowerment: Gram Mitra works towards empowering women from tribal communities by providing them with vocational training, promoting women's self-help groups, and conducting awareness campaigns on women's rights.
